Last week, the Boston Red Sox ended a streak of 11 straight games with at least 11 hits.
I was listening to some sports radio talk this afternoon, and everyone is just going crazy over the Yankees.
After finishing his rehabilitation of a strained right quadriceps, Alex Rodriguez is set to join the team tonight against Baltimore. While on the DL, A-Rod missed more games than he had in the last seven years combined.
The Yankees, now 20-24, are in last place for the first time since...well, May of last year. In fact, they were in last place as late as May 28th last year and still managed to win the Wild Card without a problem.
1) Jason Giambi caused quite a stir on Saturday when the Daily News reported that he often wears a gold thong under his uniform pants when trying to snap out of a slump. "I was blown away," Yankees broadcaster David Cone said with a smile. "You've got to be pretty confident in yourself to let that one out." Several teammates have acknowledged they've tried wearing it too, including Derek Jeter and Johnny Damon. In fact, before yesterday's game against the Mets, a sign on Mike Mussina's locker read: "Pitchers need thongs too." Stange superstitions are nothing new in baseball. Interleague play has always been a controversial subject, but either way you slice it, the subway series between the Yankees and Mets is always exciting to watch.
Jim Thome, Albert Pujols, Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Ken Griffey Jr., Luis Gonzalez, Barry Bonds, and Hank Aaron all share the record for the most individual games with a home run in their team's first 40 games.
